Born in Kütahya in 1948, Sıtkı Usta founded a small workshop under the name of Ottoman Çini under his own name in 1973. In the works he exhibited in the beginning of the 1980s, the plates looked like traditional 16th-17th century Iznik and Kütahya tiles, made bowls, Also presented surprises that surpassed itself in form, pattern and technique. In his works, he constantly strived to bring back the color of the coral red that has not been applied since the 16th century by Iznik and Kütahya. In the works he has produced since 1990, the artist revives the famous Firuze colored secret of the Seljuk revolution in semi-matte and matt. And yellow glazed works we knew from the 10th century Nişabur ceramics. Volos (Greece) has been exhibiting at major centers of the world art market such as Geneva, Algeria, Tokyo, Osaka, Madrid, London, Paris, Newyork and at the same time a great number of fans have been massive. Today, internationally accepted works are only signed as “Sıtkı” The master is still working on colored glaze (Cuerda seca), luster (gold star) and gold leaf works. Why do you think Sıtkı OLÇAR’s ceramics are so different and famous?
